Bulletins
- Website updates(Jan 2010)
A prototype portal for access to DAMES materials is available from dames.nesc.gla.ac.uk. This portal uses the LifeRay software. There are few materials currently suitable for public access; the most complete at the current time is the GEMDE prototype service (one of the services available within this portal). We post further news as more services become available.
Recent updates have been made to the Node's workshop materials page, including downloadable slides and several extended Stata format data managmeent example files associated with the training workshop of 24-25 August 2009. .
New projects. DAMES will have input to two newly established projects in the e-Social Science domain.
The National e-Infrastructure for Social Simulation (NeISS) is a major collaborative project (April 2009-March 2012), funded by JISC, led by Univ.s Leeds and Manchester (the PI is Prof. Mark Birkin), in which DAMES staff will contribute to components of the simulation servives' data management facilities.
The e-Stat Node (2009-2012), funded by the ESRC and led by Univ.s Bristol and Southampton (the PI is Prof. Bill Browne), aims to estabish a major new resource for the specification and estimation of complex statistical models, in which DAMES staff will input materials on data preparation and pre-analysis manipulations.
Current vacancies
Sorry, no vacancies being advertised at present. A recent call for ESRC studentships (pdf) has now expired.Work in progress
Technical papers. The most recent DAMES Technical Paper (see DAMES publications) is a note on 'Logistic Regression Models in Sociological Research' written by Vernon Gayle and Paul Lambert.
Testing the GEODE portal. We are very keen to receive comments on the current version of the GEODE Portal (which runs through Gridsphere and is available with guest or personalised login, at www.geode.stir.ac.uk). The current version hasn't changed much in the last year, but we are currently working on ways to expand and improve the resource, and feedback is very valuable to us.
